The Court: Melbourne Magistrates’ Court
The Date: July 2025
- Road Safety Act 30(1) – driving while suspended
- Road Safety Act 7(1)(a) – driving an unregistered vehicle
- Fine of up to $48,842.40
- Up to 2 years imprisonment
- A fine of up to $5,087.50
Our client’s vehicle was flagged by police as being unregistered and was intercepted. A check on VicRoads revealed that our client’s licence was disqualified and he was 3 days away from getting it back.
Our client was aware that his licence was suspended but did not know the car was unregistered as he was driving a work car.
In court, the Magistrate imposed a fine of $800 for charge 1 and $100 for charge 2. Both were without conviction and our client’s licence was not interfered with. The client was pleased with the low level fine and being able to keep his licence which was important for his work.
